Welcome!

If you're reading this blog, you might notice that it's a little all over the place. Part of me wants to post other stuff besides photos, but my intention for this post will be mostly photos and a hope to see some improvement as time progresses. Hope you will join me in this journey by commenting on my work and/or subscribing to this blog.

Scott Roberts LA Workshop #1

Sunday, May 16, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Thoughts....

I was so excited to see familiar faces yesterday during the workshop!  Saw Orange Turtle Photography (Cindy and Daniel), Linda Tamarpirat, Tauran Photography, as well as mutual acquaintances.  Good times!

As usual, I want to document some key learnings from the whole thing:

  1. See the light...use the light!
  2. Posing...make it simple and change it up by creating different emotions.
  3. Capture beauty...find the sweet spot.  This is something I need to learn more of.
  4. Your subject will mirror and reflect your energy. - Scott Roberts Lim
  5. When setting up a picture, there are many things to consider.  So take in to account all of the elements to what makes a great picture.  I have to be more patient and not rush shots.  I rather have one great picture than a few mediocre ones.
  6. How I create light can give me my own unique brand.
  7. Creating shadows by manipulating light will create a powerful shot
  8. Flash is controlled by aperture not by shutter speed.
  9. Models make shoots easy.  However, it's not always going to be that easy.
Here's a few pictures.  Thanks to Megan Bibbo and Nica Gevalt for being such great models for the shoot!

Well, i guess that's it for now.  I'm excited to practice what I learn and hone my trade.  I actually have a lot more to write and share, but it's time for church.  Glory to Jesus!

Cheers!

Gotta love it!

Haily&Lee's Ceremony

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

I have to say that this past Sunday's shoot was quite an experience for me.  First of all though, I was very excited to work with my wife doing this wedding.  We both learned a lot that day and have a totally larger respect for wedding photographers.  It's tough stuff to say the least!  Sheesh!  But it was FUN!

I'm very thankful to Haily and Lee for allowing me to capture their ceremony.  Haily has been my adopted little sister...more so like she adopted me as her big brother back in college. Hahaha!  She's quite the joyous woman. :) It was so nice to see that she has met a guy like Lee.  He's definitely one kind man that I know will be a great partner for life for Haily.  I wish you guys the best!  Much love to you both and blessings always.

Some key learnings for me coming out of the shoot:  I learned a lot about myself and what it really takes to be specifically a wedding photographer.  It takes lots of preparation, details, and communication. Bring spare CF cards and get there earlier in the day to scout the area.  Taking note of possible places to stand all to which will enable myself to capture the vision.  I can only get better from here on out...and I'm so happy about that! Trials bring out the best in us.  I'm yearning to learn so much more.

I have a lot of gratitude towards God for providing me with opportunities to shoot with other photographers, having friends allowing me to capture their day, and leading me to workshops that have truly inspired me.  Thank you Jesus!  I'm looking forward to more of it. :)

Anyways, here's two pictures of the lovely couple and their bridal party.  I'll post more on my facebook or Flickr.  Enjoy!

1st Annual Fullerton Art Walk

Friday, March 05, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

So, my wife and I decided to take a walk at the first ever Fullerton Art Walk tonight.  Got to see some great artwork!  It was so nice to walk around a plethora of creativity.  It definitely stimulated the right side of my brain.

I still need to figure out a better way to display the photos on this blog.  Any recommendations?  Thanks!

NAPP

Friday, February 19, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Given that it was Photoshop's 20th anniversary yesterday and me browsing Scott Kelby's site, I finally pulled the trigger to join NAPP.  I got the gear that I want now and I'm ready to learn!  I've been adding links to the side of this site under Inspiration.  Everyday, I get to take a glimpse into some of the best photographers in the world and I just find myself inspired to shoot.  It's what I love to do!

No photos today, but I'll be sure to post some work that I'm proud of.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Thursday-Friday

Thursday, February 11, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Got my flashes and radio triggers yesterday.  So I'm posting some weird pictures.  I'm getting use to the whole off-camera flash technique....which by the way, I am completely stoked about!  So let's get to it!

I'll do some normal ones...I swear.  I need to get this out of my system now. :)  Have a great three day weekend everybody!

Some Pictures from Vegas

Work has been busy, however, I want to post up some pics from my most recent Vegas trip in December.  It's never too late right?

Here's a compilation using Flickr.  Enjoy!

Raining Dogs!

Happy Friday everybody! The weekend is finally here!  Good times to be had.

I wasn't feeling so well on Thursday, so I decided to take the day off of work.  Good thing I did, because I got a special package.

Better yet though, I was happy to take pictures of my wife's doggies...the ever so famous, Miya and Mandie.  M&M.

A Rainy Day Post

Monday, January 18, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Greetings and Happy Monday everybody!

2010 has been an interesting one for me!  I got news that I have my first real wedding gig coming up this year.  I have a lot to learn, but I'm excited about the opportunity.  Definitely a blessing and a gift from the Lord to me.  So here's to inspiration from here on out! Cheers!

I'll leave you with some pictures I pretty like.  I decided to post pictures of my wheels.  You never know when you can take a creative shot.

Stay dry and be safe out there!  Inspect your wheels too.  You don't want to be driving on bald tires.

Good Morning!

Turning Over a New Leaf

Thursday, January 07, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

So I'm going to try something new.  Once I take a picture, I will post it up and then post process it later.  That way, there will be a comparison between the original and final.  And here we goooooo!

Let me see what I can do with this one later on.  If not, ces't la vie.

Updated (08Jan10) So here's an edited copy of the picture.  Just something simple.

The flower said, "I wish I was a tree," The tree said, "I wish I could be A different kind of tree..."

UPDATE: 5 minutes after posting this post, I realized that shots can't be forced.  I tried to get a shot so I can post it up, but wasn't pleased with it that much.  Let this day be a lesson to me...don't force the shot.  Like when playing basketball, don't force it...let the game come to you.  I'll just be aware of my surroundings and if there's something that catches my eye, I'm there.

It's such a beautiful day outside!  During lunch, I decided to check out the soccer game happening on the field at work.  Soak up a little sun and try to find an interesting shot somehow.  I must admit, my creative juices were not flowing so readily today.   It must be work.  I kid I kid!  What I like about this picture especially is the sun hiding behind the tree...since it gave me a sliver of shade so I could watch the soccer game. :)  Thank you tree!

Enjoy

I used Photomatix Pro to overlay two similar images exposed at different exposures (1/160 @f/8 and 1/320 and f/11).  I didn't have a tripod on me, hence the blurriness on the leaves.

"Shine Your Light..."

Monday, January 04, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

When I took this picture of our ceiling fan switch, my faith came to mind.  In particular, the word, "choice".  I like to have the Light on in my life.

Don't you just want to tug on it?  It's right there.

"Sunrise Sunrise...Looks like morning in your eyes..."

Monday, January 04, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Good Monday to everyone!

As I was heading to work today for the first time in 2010, I realized that I need to start keeping my gear in my car.  You might not know when you may just run into a beautiful sunrise...I was so sad that I had to take these photos with my iPhone.

I love how the moon was still out.

This one came out a tad blurry since I was driving.  Taking a picture and driving in low light conditions is very difficult. :)  I love how the sky is lit on fire.  The rays on the horizon almost looks like a crown of sort.  What do you think?

"Viva Las Vegas!"

Friday, January 01, 2010 Posted by Edmund Ie

Happy New Year! Let the good times roll!

I had a blast spending the last two days of 2009 with my wife and my good friend, Eugene C., in Las Vegas!  Had a great time taking pictures in the new City Center and Red Rock National Park.  Many cool sights to see during our trip. There's more to Las Vegas than the Strip...imagine that.  Wish I could have brought my camera in to the Black Eyed Peas concert though...they put on a spectacle...oh wells.

Most of pictures were tweaked with Lightroom.  Hope you enjoy!

Happy 2010 everybody! Here's to new inspirations and growth!
